Hotel at Sunset Station: Dignowity Hill Historic District, San Antonio, TexasnThe new, 4 story building was conceived for a vacant lot and intended to fill a void in the urban street wall. The building was rendered in an architectural vocabulary that drew from the historic, 19th century commercial character of the district. The lobby is defined by a glazed double volume entry from Commerce Street that permits natural light to flood into the reception area and breakfast lounge. The program also includes a small kitchen, meeting rooms and offices for hotel staff. ERN Architects represented the Owner in public hearings with the City of San Antonio for local tax abatements and design approval. The building is 49,041 square feet and included 81 guestrooms and a comparable number of concealed parking spaces. The project opened in 2003.
